About the Artwork

Black Leather, 2023, is a deep delve into materiality. My paintings are often an immersive interaction between texture, sensation and human connection and this painting is a small study of the essence of my practice. With reference to fetish, softness and drapery painting of the Renaissance, Black Leather is also about pushing the idea of tactility. It’s a painting that stirs a childlike impulse to reach out and touch it. Yet there is a tension, especially when placed into a gallery setting, between desire and restraint when we are with an object that must be merely observed and not handled.
