About the Artwork

These photographs are part of a larger exploration into our increased convergence and augmentation with biotechnology. Imprint highlights the duality of technological tools: not only adding to but also interfering with our understanding of the body. Using the extremely tactical slime, which has gained increased momentum as a relaxation tool during an age of extreme anxiety, I create imprints of my palms as small sculptures which I then photograph as artifacts.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Pauline Batista (b.1988 Rio de Janeiro, BR) is a multimedia artist based in London. She holds a B.A in International Relations from USC (2010) and an MFA from Goldsmiths University (2017). She exhibited at: POLI/GRAFICA of Latin American and Caribbean Art (PR), Tropigalpão (BR), Museo Civico G. Fattori (IT), GALLLERIAPIÙ (Bologna, IT), and Houston Center for Photography (Houston, USA). Awards include the DAAD Grant and ACE DYCP Grant. Shortlisted for both DUCATO and COMBAT Prizes in Italy (2020). Her work has been featured in Artishock, La Stampa, AQNB, Elephant Magazine, and Juliet Magazine.
