Portrait of the artist imagining his own death

About the Artwork

There is no spectacle in this imagined death, only a quiet collapse of boundaries between interior and exterior. The body hovers in a state of detachment, not absence. It isn’t grief that anchors the image, but anticipation — the eerie familiarity of an ending long rehearsed. This is not a final portrait but a looping one, marked by stillness, delay, and muted theatre. What the painting holds is not the death itself, but the desire to look at it without flinching.
