About the Artwork

The 'Corpus Hermeticum', is an ancient origin story, a collection of Greek writings, attributed to the fictional Hermes Trismegistus, whose identity is a blend of the greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. In this unique myth, rather than being male or female, the source of life is mentioned as being androgyne. "Poimandre" is a deity in this text who is described as an all seeing mind. This artwork, "Visions of Poimandres" shows an alternative creation myth, by showing the five elements and a non-hierarchical circle at the centre of it's origin story.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hazel Florez (b. 1984) is a London-based artist and researcher with an MFA from Edinburgh. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is published with Taschen in The Library of Esoterica. She is also due to be published in a forthcoming book with Taschen called Mystical Beasts. Florez writes on mystical art and art history for The World of Interiors magazine and was shortlisted for the London College of Psychic Studies annual art competition in 2022 and 2024. She is a Bridgeman Images Studio artist.
