About the Artwork

This work is inspired by the quiet yet striking moment of raindrops hitting pavement - ephemeral, subtle and often overlooked. My practice begins in this small poetic interactions between nature and the urban environment. I'm drawn to the gentle, almost imperceptible presence of such moments and I try to hold them in space as a way of inviting reflection. 
 
The work is also inspired by dancers and movement - their rhythm, grace and way their actions can appear completely effortless. That depth of presence, the balance between discipline and freedom, resonates strongly in the work.

The work consists of 15 x stainless steel woven wire mesh forms each fixed on a 80cm rod and extending to 3.2m in height through 3 further interconnecting 80cm rods. The rods are bent at either end and simply hook onto one another. The forms are suspended from the ceiling by the top rod which hooks into a 10mm screw eye.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Zara Ramsay (b.1993) is a London based artist working across drawing, sculpture and installation. She studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. In 2024 she was awarded Art Council Funding to undertake a paper residency in the US. This year Ramsay's work was included in "Rana Begum Curates: Opposing Forms" at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester and was also a commissioned artist for Milton Keynes Fringe Festival. Her work is included in private collections.
