About the Artwork

I’m fascinated by subtle forms of communication, both natural and man-made. Floral roots form interwoven networks; above ground, ‘shy trees’ maintain respectful distance, quietly connecting. In parallel, I look to medieval architecture, especially rib vaults, arched frameworks symbolising strength, hidden support, and spiritual ascension. These structures stretch upward, linking the earthly and the divine. This work is made to be viewed from both sides. One side visually represents root systems through thread, while the reverse reveals sculptural support in metal wire, echoing rib vaults, and providing an unseen strength that holds the entire structure together.

There are two ways to hang the embroidery “Roots.” On the reverse side, the work carries a metal wire ornament, allowing it to be mounted simply by suspending the wire on nails.

Alternatively, the piece can be hung from the top, as it can be viewed from both sides: one side is the embroidery, the other side displays the metal wire pattern.
