About the Artwork

Mèn-an-Tol imagines new age sediments forming over deep time, compressed concrete, toxic chemicals, heavy metals, plastics forming layers of hybrid urban geology. Inspired by the neolithic monument, Mèn-an-Tol, embedded in the Cornish landscape, said to have healing powers. The surface depicts future hybrid life forms, reminiscent of lichens and mosses - the first pioneer plants to grow on rocky terrain, where even the most depleted landscapes can be reclaimed by nature and transformed into new life. Made in tandem with the painting ‘Luna’ 2024 where the centre was cut out, evoking a process of excavation of borehole digging in archaeology.
