“1.0” is a part of an ongoing series of work exploring the tension between human impact and the natural systems it affects. In the piece, a pure white dove is captured in suspended motion, soaring above our gaze within a vibrant skyline. Its path quickly becomes interrupted by the force of human technology; a literal impact in this composition through laser engraving, suspending the bird within its reach. The conclusion of its fate then lies within the gaze of the viewer in a liminal space between life and death.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Malachy McCrimmon (b. 2003) is a recent Fine Art graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Their exhibition, Go Touch Some Grass, gained success at the Degree Show 2025, winning the RSA New Contemporaries award and the Nomas Projects Prize, and a feature in The Skinny. Their work has also been featured in the RSA 199th Annual Exhibition.
