About the Artwork

The work creates a dialogue between the lottery being a ritualistic activity similar to going to the pub, both of which are prominent memories and observations from upbringing, whilst considering the role and hold the lottery has in culture particularly to working class people. It acts as a pedestal to pursue a wish that exists within a sense of false hope and deception. ‘Fingers crossed!’ refers to expressions of superstitions present in culture, how these manifest meaning within language and beliefs. The cushion was made using a tufting gun. I am interested in combining traditional craft processes with found objects.
