About the Artwork

I explore the land from above, but also on foot. 'Last Light by the Old Gate' traces an evening trail run through coastal farmland, brambled edges, broken fences, the old gate, the day thinning to dusk. The stripped-back composition maps the way the land has been scored and claimed, fields for growing, for living, and for leaving wild.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Daniel Freytag (b. 1975) is a Scottish artist and designer based in Oban. A design graduate from Gray's School of Art, his work explores the land from above. He began making art in 2023, and his debut solo show at Alder Gallery in June 2025 was a success with all pieces placed. He is now seeking to expand his network within the arts community.
