About the Artwork

The work explores how subjectivity erodes in a hyper–informational, arguably post–digital reality. Immersed in a perpetually mediated world, the self fragments under relentless exposure and blinding illumination. Once linked to clarity, light here acts coercively: a surveillance mechanism that erases rather than reveals, destabilising identity. The human figure, visually anonymised, hovers within a silent, indifferent natural setting. This dissonance between vulnerable body and impassive landscape generates an understated existential tension: nature endures unaffected while the individual gradually dissolves.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Maxim Frolov (b. 1990, Saratov, Russia) is a London-based artist who studied at the Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. His solo exhibition, 'NEW ERA/NEW TRIBE', took place at Blind Spot Gallery in St. Petersburg in 2022. He has participated in selected exhibitions in Russia and a 2025 biennial in Denmark. He received an award for 'Subcultural Landscape Part II' at the Baron Stieglitz Museum. His work was also featured in the PORT ART FAIR in 2023.
