About the Artwork
New Observations on the History of Bees investigates the impact of neonicotinoid pesticides on wild pollinator cognition and memory processes. Through mixed media works combining printmaking biology and neurosciencemthis ongoing research addresses Colony Collapse Disorder affecting bee species globally. Developed during my artist residency in Darmstadt and presented in my solo exhibition A.A.LLES at Atelierhaus LEW1 the series involved collaborations with biologists and researchers at Technische Universität. Using drypoint techniques and archival microscope slides I compare organic materials from different eras to visualise pesticide contamination's effects on pollinator consciousness and cognitive systems.
