About the Artwork

Exploring the fascinating costumes and accessories of the ballet, the whimsical isolated scene is cropped to where the person's arms and legs are visible, and their hands are manipulating the laces of glossy pink ballet shows. Celebrating the grace and glamour of quotidian acts, there is an emphasising of features using stage aesthetics. Drama and intrigue is heightened as several straight pins with yellow and purple heads are scattered around the shoes, the title referring also to the condition of paresthesia, subtly implying that chilling, numb, and tingling realities writhe beneath the surface level stage glow.
