About the Artwork

'Cartography/kinesthesia' is part of the larger work The Future of Images (modular knowledge system), a freestanding image-machine that borrows its structure from outdated bureaucratic tools and repurposes them as vessels for sensing, belief, and psychic orientation. Five modular slides, laser-cut from metal and UV-printed with layered diagrams, archival fragments, invented glyphs, x-ray aesthetics, and cosmic maps, rotate around a central spine. Each panel behaves like a file that never quite stabilizes into information, a diagram that gestures toward understanding but ultimately drifts into ambiguity. Balancing on the boundary between sense and nonsense, the work materialises the provisional ways that technologies and knowledges afford collective orientation within historical time.
Cartography/kinesthesia juxtaposes the mapping of the world's oceans in the European spatial imaginary with the wayfinding traditions of Oceania, which maps space not through mathematical coordinates but through proprioceptive capacities, close observation.
