About the Artwork

Stane Duet is composed of two vessels designed in harmonic balance, with one form resting gently inside the other. Their interlocking shapes echo the rhythms of the wider Stane series, named after the Scots word for stone and inspired by the rugged coastline and weathered stone walls of Scotland. Both inner surfaces carry textured impressions made with Scottish sand, grounding the work in the coastal landscape that inspired the Stane series. The vessels may be displayed as a single, nested composition or as two separate pieces, allowing their dialogue of form, balance, and place to unfold in multiple ways.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Claudia Barreira is a Brazilian artist based in London, working primarily with ceramics and painting. Her practice explores the intricate connections between environment, material, and memory, exploring the natural traits of materials while capturing the dynamic tension between fragility and strength.
She completed her BA in Contemporary Design Crafts at the University of Hertfordshire and MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.
She was awarded the Initiative Award from Ceramic Review Magazine and shortlisted for London Group Collective, John Ruskin Prize, and ArtEvol Collective.
She has been exhibited at Thrown Contemporary, Messums Gallery, John Ruskin Prize, London Group Collective, and New Designers.
