About the Artwork

Forced Interaction is an ongoing investigation on rebellion and control within the convention of painting. The painting begins with a square stretcher frame that is reconstructed into new forms by adding and subtracting the base material, creating surface tension when stretched with canvas. Colour acts as a rectifying agent, that when seen from a certain distance, highlights a perfect resemblance of a square on the modified surface. I am interested in the idea of adaptation in a world that requires one to fit in to survive; how disagreements and disobediences happen but we adjust to stay within the system.

Ready to Hang: Yes

Use heavy duty metal L brackets (two
brackets for each painting) or alternatively drilled wooden bars. The width of the section
that extends forward should be 8-10 cm to ensure maximum support. If the wall is thin,
locate the stud supports and drill into them to ensure stability. Since the paintings are
heavy, the mounting support must be strong and securely anchored to a solid backing.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

E. Pangestu (b. 1992, Indonesia) is a London-based painter with an MA from the Royal College of Art and a BA from Birmingham School of Art. She has held solo exhibitions in Jakarta, Seoul, and Taipei, and participated in group shows including at the National Gallery of Indonesia and the Royal Academy of Arts. Pangestu has been an artist in residence in Japan, Portugal, and the USA. Her work has been published in Tatler Indonesia and she was featured in Prestige Indonesia.
