About the Artwork

Using an ancient technique to create contemporary shrines, Liberty Antonia’s mosaics are inspired by the surviving depictions of fat figures, female sexuality, and queer deities. Finding comfort in rebellious bodies inspiring art & iconography throughout time, and affirmation in these figures from antiquity that existed outside the boundaries & binaries.
While our ancestors may have used different words to describe themselves, throughout cultures & throughout centuries, human beings have come in all sorts of shapes, sizes & gender expressions; this is something to celebrate, document & take heart from.

Liberty’s mosaics are colourful & joyful icon-affirmations to celebrate unruly figures.
