About the Artwork

This work is part of a series with kinetic sculptures that have worked as spatial experiments transforming energy and found objects into mechanical and repetitive movements. The sculpture itself consists of self salvaged components that allowed me to create a mechanism inspired by Windmills found in rural areas.

The work needs a nail on the wall for it to hook from, there is a hook placed on the sculpture already. It also requires a plug for the motor to work. The Cable that powers the motor can only be 12v. The motor is connected to a controller. The controller has two switches, one is for how fast the motor will turn and the other one has three appliances. when the switch is on the middle the motor is dead, when it goes to 1 it rotates clockwise when it is on 2 it rotates left sided. In case the wheel stops rotating, STOP the motor and check if the rope connecting the motor and the wheel has gotten tangled, if yes untangle it and start the motor again.

Angelos Kotzias

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Angelos Kotzias is a London-based artist (Greece, 2002). He specialises in sculpture, painting, and spatial forms. His work explores memory, landscape, movement, and the inner emotional environment of humans. Kotzias completed his BA in Fine Art at UCA Farnham, continuing his studies for a Masters in Arts and Humanities at the Royal College of Art in London. He was a finalist for the Freelands Foundation Painting Priza 2023, while also had work selected for the 2022 Beijing Fiber Art Biennale. Rooted in a Mediterranean cultural background and shaped by London's urban density, Kotzias uses the concept of materiality in his work to tell a story inspired by literature, personal memory, and lived experience. His current practice navigates the tension between natural environments and metropolitan confinement. His works are composed of found objects, often collected from scrap yards and abandoned machines, and he manipulates their mechanisms to create improvised, engineered kinetic sculptures, experimenting with movement and questioning the need for and understanding of the complex technology around us. His sculptural work explores systems that appear purposeful but operate without clear necessity.
