About the Artwork

Learning to take up space takes my interest in fibre arts, as a commentary on gendered associations and the politics of textiles, and places the material as a substitute for flesh. Working alongside the materials, and looking at the world through a feminist lens, I am questioning the politics of space - who gets to take up space and why certain groups are expected to not to. This piece rejects our eurocentric, patriarchal society, encouraging positive growth and expansion for those who face inequality.
