About the Artwork

Noise was filmed using a digital microscope, capturing liquid crystals from an LCD screen pushed and pulled in front of a light box. The magnified pixels become fluid and pulsing, like the city’s noise. This video loop explores sound through visual means, emerging from thoughts on silence as a mode of listening. In trying to hear silence, you notice everything else—your body, the wind, water, branches. The act of describing silence destroys it. Similarly, visualising sound feels inherently contradictory. The videos are shown on recycled laptop LCDs, mounted on modular steel structures clamped with brass-plated audiophile speaker spikes.
