About the Artwork

Making collage is rooted in childhood memories of cutting images from Sunday supplements. Today I work with National Geographic magazines, drawn to their depictions of specific environments and the people and ecologies within them. As I search through their pages, questions surface. Does this place still exist? How have these landscapes and communities changed?
Handling these magazines becomes a way of reconnecting with distant, highly evolved natural worlds. I am interested in the magazines as physical objects and cultural artefacts. By dismantling them, I reveal their underlying structures, and what they tell us about connection to the natural world.
