About the Artwork
The series it’s from explores controlled abstraction through intended aesthetic design. Due to the notion that each work in the series is a kind of portrait. Initially via the idea of a box being a representation of self, in the sense of a hidden interior space. -this is why there's sometimes holes in the lids, playing with the idea of communication/connection between interior+exterior. Then the aesthetics speak to a wider portraiture than just self, of places, memories and conditions. Equally as boxes they’re somewhat commodified, which is a mirror to consumption in how we brand things and ourselves aesthetically.
