Exploring the fascinating costumes and accessories of the ballet, the whimsical isolated scene is cropped to focus on a crimson mesh glove handling a mirror, with the impression of a swan rendered in the reflective glass of the object. Celebrating the quotidian with the grace and glamour of stage aesthetics, there is an extra level of drama and intrigue expressed in the scene. Eschewing a simple focus on an everyday item, the juxtapositions in the composition and the overall ambience emanating from this demands deeper narrative interpretations. ABOUT THE ARTIST

Estelle Simpson (b. 2001, Leeds) is a painter, writer, and curator based in South London. She graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in 2023 and was selected for the inaugural New Blood Emerging Art Prize showcase at Saatchi Gallery. Her work has been exhibited at Tache Gallery, Norito Gallery, Outhouse Gallery, and Southwark Park Galleries. She is the co-founder of the curatorial collective Disrupting Mythologies and has published her first book with Shoe Box.
