About the Artwork

My work often focuses on different aspects of the human body and plays with ideas around seduction and sensuality from a queer perspective. ‘Swirl’ was inspired by the enjoyment of drinking iced drinks during summer and the implicit eroticism of drinking from a straw, specifically the point of contact between one’s lips, the liquid and the straw.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mitko Karakolev (b. 1993) is a London based artist. He received his MA from the Royal College of Art and a BA from the University for the Creative Arts. He has exhibited in group exhibitions, publishing fairs and screenings across the UK, France, Italy, Germany and China. He had his first solo exhibition, ‘Quiet Pleasures’, at Tavistock and Portman Trust in 2023. His work is held in private collections in the UK and internationally.
