About the Artwork

My paintings feed off thoughts around climate change, ecology, consciousness, time, connectivity, ancient spiritual practices, shapely fruit, the moon, ancestral longing, shadows, rituals, clouds, things you cannot measure and things you cannot define. It is a form of taking in the natural world and connecting with its disappearing creatures and plants, with prehistoric and contemporary ideas and rituals, and turning these connections into a visual experience. I like how this old visual form can still capture and express something of our brains that is the sum of all our experience, and continue to operate on its own stubborn “painting time”.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Agnieszka Katz Barlow (b. 1978, Krakow, Poland) lives and works in London. She holds a BA from Central St Martins and an MFA from Slade School of Art. She has exhibited in London, Berlin, the US, Sweden, and Poland. She was awarded the Barto dos Santos memorial award in 2015. Her work has been published in Art Maze mag and is held in private collections in the UK and the US.
