About the Artwork

‘Self-care’ is a direct response to abject fatigue caused by being plugged into the world almost constantly. When social, familial, and global news are all at our fingertips, it feels impossible to narrow one’s focus to just one of these areas without being bombarded by the others. The conscious decision to cut off any of these streams of communication carries the weight of guilt for choosing to remain uninformed. Choosing not to engage feels like a modern-day sin, yet finding a way to experience a degree of solace can feel desperate, extreme, and bound to hurt us in other ways.
