About the Artwork
The painting, for me, suggests something about generations, although that wasn't pre-conceived. The figure looking out across the water feels like a younger person, perhaps restless or eager to travel. The older woman has her back to the water, and feeds the birds at her feet. I'm often quite inspired in places of transit, docks etc. - I think these two characters are a bit like ships in the night, it feels like a fleeting, hazy moment.
