About the Artwork

Paradise Lost III’ (from the series ‘Our Dark Materials’) has emerged from a deeply felt, expressive application of polymer plastic and oil paint. It is third in a series of tondo paintings on board. The round format suggests the experience of viewing through a lens, perhaps that of a microscope, focussing on a fragment from a familiar landscape; or, by contrast, a view of an ancient planetary continent distant in time and space. It is my hope that this painting might encourage reflection on the nature of our fragile, and increasingly remote, connection with planet Earth.
