About the Artwork

Bow and Marrow is a sculptural organ suspended in tension: a visceral knot of copper skin held within a steel arc, echoing both anatomical resilience and infrastructural fragility. Inspired by the interstitium—an overlooked system of fluid-filled cavities newly recognized as vital—the work imagines a speculative biology shaped by emotional and societal saturation. Here, organs evolve not through mutation but as responses to psychic overload: stress, depression, collapse. These speculative forms filter not blood, but affect. Bow and Marrow murmurs with the resonance of something ancient yet emergent—a conduit for the unseen forces that course through contemporary life.

There is a wall fitting that needs a deep wall plug and s crew in order to screw a disc on the wall. Then the disc has two side holes, where there are two threaded inserts with an allen key head that need to be screwed in. This is for the neck of the piece. The bow like structure is inserted with a bolt into a threaded insert and tightened with a screw. The side arms have one bolt each that tightens with a nut. The copper piece needs to bee handled with gloves at all times as it will oxidise otherwise. There are two holes on the piece where the arms slot in.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Evangelia Dimitrakopoulou (b. 1992, Athens) is a sculptor and multimedia artist based in London. She holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her practice explores Otherness and care through installation-based sculptures using scent and edible components. She was the recipient of the ACME Early Career Award (2020-21) and the MOTOROIL Scholarship. Her work has been exhibited across the UK and Europe, including at the Whitechapel Gallery and Saatchi Gallery. She is part of the collectives Display Fever and Blue Whip.
