About the Artwork

Material nature, defined by its inability to sustain itself beyond what is permitted, is inherently subject to decay. A desire to live longer, endure longer and feel more deeply is driven by lust. Within this momentary blooming, passion pollinates one’s surroundings for the fruits to be enjoyed, yet the petals still wither away as they must decay. Similarly, as one inhabits the body, the contemplation lies in being conscious of its transitory and impermanent nature, aiming to focus only on what one can control. This lotus sculpture wrapped in human form serves to observe this idea.

The piece consists of a shallow metal base containing the rotating mechanism, onto which the sculpture will be placed. Set the wooden timber on a flat surface, then balance the rotating plate in the middle so that it sits evenly on the soft pads beneath. Next, position the metal plinth on top, aligning the hole precisely with the rotating plate for a tight fit. Finally, carefully lower the sculpture as a whole onto the plinth, ensuring it rests securely.
