Dragon Stool

Glazed stoneware ceramic and rattan

About the Artwork

This work takes influence from the orange tiles found on Chinese temples, rattan furniture found in abundance in South-East Asian and in the UK, and domestic spaces. Stools and chairs are fascinating objects, that can be purely functional – or they can carry much deeper sentimental and cultural meaning. I’m interested in the intersections between art, craft and design. By the rattan legs taking upon an abstract form, this piece that reflects on modern multiculturalism and the lived mixed-heritage experience, takes upon a contemplative and contemporary form that signifies rest and ritual in tandem.
