About the Artwork

The work features an immense green stem has the texture of tree bark. Above the stem sits a vast pink tulip. The base of the stem is unseen. A European green woodpecker is perched on the side of the stem, its outsized scale natural but is improbable.
Flanked either side of the flower are two tiny deciduous leafless trees giving a sense of scale and distance. The background sky fades from pale blue to indigo, while salmon pink cumulus clouds float up from the base.
The work invites several interpretations including ecological anxiety and spatial dislocation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Keith Pointing, a graduate of Middlesex University, has exhibited in London at the ICA and Freud Gallery, and internationally at the Künstlerhaus, Vienna. He has exhibited alongside notable artists such as Peter Doig and Issac Julien. In 2024, his work was included in The PATH at the Palazzo Pisani-Revedin during the Venice Biennale. In 2025, his work will be shown at The London Lighthouse and The KoppeL Project. His drawings from the book The Inkspot Monologues were exhibited at the Freud Gallery.
