About the Artwork
The sculpture is part of a series where each object's shape is made by dipping fabric into a mix of natural beeswax, beef tallow and lipstick, then casting it in materials such as brass, soap or resin. This version is cast in bronze with black patina, which holds texture of the wax sculpture and could reveal bronze natural colour in time with touch if desired. While the series draws on the Cabinet of Curiosities, the forms recall the drapery of classical sculpture, left standing once the figure is gone. The work explores the presence of body in sculpture, and the boundaries between real and imaginative.
