About the Artwork

The body dissolves and reorganises as unstable forms suspended between organic and unfamiliar heterogeneity. In continuous transition, the structures emerge from fragile enclosures where expansion and contraction occur simultaneously. Interior and exterior are understood not as separate conditions but as permeable, interconnected states held in tension between stability and fragility.
As evolving systems, the works transform through growth, fusion, and accumulation. Materials mutate and reconstruct over time, generating forms that suggest ongoing transformation rather than fixed states. Remaining open to continual encounter, the structures produce meanings that are neither singular nor static, but constantly shifting.

Installation consists of six components in total. The five outer elements are wall-mounted using nails, with each piece secured by two nails fixed directly into the wall. The central element requires a single expansion screw for wall fixing, providing additional structural support due to its position and weight.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hongru Zhang (b.1996, China) is a London-based artist. She received a BA in Performance Art and Practice from Central Saint Martins and completed an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art. She lives and works in London. Her work has been exhibited across London, including Grey with a Glimmer at Indra Gallery, Monster Farm at Annex, The Shape Surrounding at Filet Space, Nothing Holds on It’s Own at Annex, Borderlines at Fitzrovia Gallery, Footfalls Echo at Safehouse, and Field of Clarity at Photofusion Gallery. Her work has also been featured in Divide Magazine.
