Part of a larger body of work exploring 'the pub' as repository. ‘Saloon’ materialises the haunting of these spaces by historic remnants of signs (and their fictitious counterparts) and considers how the meaning of spaces and their signs evolve over time, shifting, retaining and ultimately producing new meaning.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Poppy Frean (b.1996) is a textile artist based in South East London whose work primarily explores the feeling and experience of place, belonging and home. She graduated from the University of Sussex in 2020, completing a year’s study abroad at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Her debut solo show ‘Tapestry Mapping Reside’ took place at Peak Gallery in Elephant and Castle in 2020. Since then, they have participated in numerous group exhibitions, most recently at Outhouse Gallery and Hypha Studios.
