About the Artwork

My recent works illustrate quiet scenes of pregnancy and postpartum, focusing on moments of shared wonder, exploration and protectiveness. Here, a pair huddles together in a shared dream of the future. “Your Place in the Family of Things” takes its’ title from a Mary Oliver poem and its figures reference a drawing by Egon Schiele. In all of my works, I explore a love for storytelling and ornamental pattern.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mills Brown (b. 1993) is an artist with an MFA from American University and a BA from Wofford College. She has had several solo exhibitions, including A Place to Hide in Oxford (2023) and Interiors in Washington, D.C. (2019). Her work has been included in group shows at Braziers Park, Oxford, and London. Brown’s work has been reviewed in The Washington Post and she has been interviewed by Modern Art Oxford.
