About the Artwork

‘Armour’ is one of four larger works in Caroline Ingham's 2025 series Meditations on my Body. Made using distemper- impregnated paper, waxed, painted and sutured by hand, it is displayed above eye level, hanging precariously from the wall. It requires the viewer to stretch and move back and forth to take in its full form—a structure that suggests armour and protection while simultaneously appearing delicate and vulnerable.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Caroline Ingham (b. 1961) is an artist based in London. She holds an MA Fine Art (Painting) from Camberwell College of Arts University of the Arts London, and a BA in Theatre Design. Prior to her MA studies she had an extensive career in museum design at the British Museum and the Natural History Museum, London. Her sculptural practice explores the tension between strength and fragility through non-figurative, three-dimensional forms that evoke the human body. She exhibits regularly and has had her work selected for the London Group Open 2025 and the inaugural exhibition of No Place Art ‘Materiality’.
