About the Artwork

Aestivation is the dormancy period some creatures enter in response to heat. Like hibernation, aestivation is a process of preservation. It prevents water-loss and allows the organism to focus energy inwards. The organism can retain water and conserve energy by stabilizing organs, cells, and specific macromolecules. This sculpture highlights introspection and yielding to extreme conditions with the understanding that external pressures will pass.
