About the Artwork

Sarah Villeneau’s practice is rooted in an investigation of human hubris in regard to our place in the world and the denial of our corporeal and animal nature. Bringing the inside out, she presents abstracted yet highly suggestive bodily forms that resonate across the natural world, whilst also creating a visceral  response in the viewer.
This piece is a made-to-measure ceramic representation of the average small intestine, with a repurposed ceramic tube and found sisal rope. The importance of the gut in terms of our well-being and decision-making is increasingly gaining credence and recognition as the ‘second brain.’
