Sarah Villeneau
Sarah Villeneau (b.1958) fell in love with clay at an evening class in her twenties and subsequently did a certificate course in ceramics, jewellery and textiles at Sir John Cass School of Art, London, then a part-time degree in Ceramics and Textiles at Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry, followed by an MA in Art and Design at Leeds Metropolitan University, and, finally, an MA in Studio Ceramics:Methodology and Practice at Loughborough University, completed 2014. She is a selected member of the Craft Potters Association, the Royal Society of Sculptors, the Yorkshire Sculptors Group and has been selected for the Homo Faber Guide. She has received numerous awards from the Arts Council and other funding bodies and has exhibited in public galleries in Sheffield (Millenium Gallery) and Doncaster where she had a solo show in 2024. She was selected as one of ten artists to represent Sheffield at the Herrick Gallery in Mayfair in 2019. She has twice exhibited at Discerning Eye at the Mall Gallery and the Royal Society of Sculptors Summer Show. In 2023 she was selected for Collect Open as part of Collect Art Fair at Somerset House and Ceramic Art London the following year. In 2019 she was invited to exhibit at the International Ceramic Arts Festival in Sasama, Japan. Sarah has participated in the University of Sheffield's biannual Festival of the Mind working with the Electroacoustic Department in 2024 and the Zooarcheology Department this year. Sarah has received a Research and Development Award from the Arts Council this year o work with the University of Birmingham on the gut and mouth microbiome and the University of Sheffield's Anatomy Department. She has extensive experience working with people in the community and taught for several years at Sheffield College and occasionally runs courses from her studio, She regularly teaches at West Dean College, Sussex. Her work is featured in the soon to be released book 'Clay:Form' by Jessica Brown.
