About the Artwork
Featuring a tombstone-like engraved carbon fibre panel framed in walnut, Special Edition explores the relationship between materiality and absurdity within the Byronic Hero archetype. Carbon fibre's high strength-to-weight ratio and its use in motorsport, military and aerospace applications has seen its distinctive patterning appropriated in all manner of everyday items looking to co-opt its high-tech macho associations, from phone cases to pens. The walnut-trimmed car dashboards traditionally found in luxury grand tourers have been replaced too. Lifted from teen vampire saga Twilight, the engraved quote has become a meme of Byronic Hero absurdity, here carved into a deadpan, space-age shimmer.
