About the Artwork

My materials-led sculptural practice focuses on ideas of motion, animation and flux, creating a physical manifestation of suspended animation, a transitory fragment in time. I am drawn to the rhythmic qualities of motion and to the spaces between using the strength of the bronze to open up the space creating an energetic interplay between the airways and the material.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alexandra Harley (b. 1958) is a sculptor who has maintained her practice since 1984. She is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and The London Group. She has won prizes including the Ashurst and the Brian Mercer Fellowship. She has public sculptures in Andres Sculpture Park, New Hampshire, and Anguilla. Her work has been included in publications by Thames and Hudson and Hodder and Stoughton, and an essay about her sculpture was published on www.instantloveland.com in June 2025.
