About the Artwork
Emerald Canopies is a sculptural meditation on memory, place, and belonging. Inspired by the silhouettes of tropical palms native to Singapore, the work echoes the vertical rhythm of foliage once framing the artist's daily view. Hand-shaped forms stretch skyward, recalling fronds that sway while reaching for light. Created during a time of relocation, the piece reflects a queer artist's negotiation of home, adaptation, and identity. With its green vibrancy and architectural arrangement, Emerald Canopies bridges natural and built environments, making it resonant for exhibitions exploring home, queer space, adaptation, nature, and architecture.
