About the Artwork
Miguel is fascinated by history, narrative & myth, & often creates highly expressive work based on historical or mythical characters. This painting was inspired by the thrilling tale of Gilgamesh, the ancient Mesopotamian hero who, after the death of his friend, undertook an ultimately doomed quest to uncover the secret of immortality. Miguel hopes that the energy and vibrancy of this ancient story will come across in the painting. This work was executed in thick oil impasto (created with a mixture of oil paint, impasto medium & marble dust) applied on the canvas & worked throughout with a palette knife.
