Kate Gorbunova

Kate Gorbunova (b. 1987) is a Hackney-based ceramicist who came to clay after a decade as a graphic designer. She studied at the University of Leeds. Her work is eclectic and character-led, drawing inspiration from antiquity, classical forms, and her whippet. Through her practice, she explores the cultural weight of Hackney and its parallels with ancient Rome. Her ceramic alter ego, Count Barkula, emerged in response to the first lockdown. Her work is stocked by Urn Studios.
