About the Artwork

My practice unravels the interplay between memory, home and the emotional bond I feel toward the Cornish landscape. The threads I weave evoke each place I have lived, and those imagined. A ritualistic process, the rhythmic repetition of my craft allows me to drift off into the landscapes, and imaginary worlds where the comfort of nostalgia, is disturbed by uncanny visions, childhood fears and the unfamiliar. Asparagus Trees sets the scene for an eerie tale with a creature that’s crept through the asparagus trees to fish within the pink copper marsh.

The asparagus has a pole on the inside of the sculpture which slots into a parasol stand for the work to be sturdy and not topple, then the bottom of the sculpture (red tendrils/roots) cover the base

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hollie Palmer (b. 1999) is a London-based artist exploring memory and emotional bonds with landscapes through tufting and ceramics. She holds a BA from Falmouth University and an MA from Central Saint Martin's. Her work has been shown at Hypha Gallery, The Bomb Factory, and Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. Her publication 'How do Personal Experiences Places and Play form a Sense of Feeling at Home?' was at Off Print, Tate Modern. She was recently commissioned by Tate Collective.
