About the Artwork
Through linear strokes, the artist depicts low-resolution film stills of a Serbian folklore dance performed during a summer school at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2011. Part of an ongoing series reflecting a formative moment in her artistic development, the work is rooted in an exploration of third-culture identity as someone born in the UK to parents from Serbia and Brazil. The painting process engages both the documentation of performance and the shifting, active nature of images as sites of identification.
