About the Artwork

This ongoing photographic project explores women’s relationship with nature and the search for belonging within the natural world. Through self-portraits and portraits, figures wear sculptural forms made from natural materials, blending body and landscape. The work considers how environment shapes identity, transformation, and connection. By merging with nature, I blur the boundary between self and surroundings, presenting the landscape as a space of emotional and spiritual resonance. At the same time, the project reflects on ecological fragility, highlighting the interdependence between humans and nature, and expressing a continued search for belonging, care, and unity with the living world.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Olana Light (b. 1983) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portsmouth, UK. She holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London (2020) and a BA in Fine Art from Southampton Solent University (2017). Recent awards include the Bute Festival Thameslink Award (2024), Every Breath We Take Award (2024), Arts Council England DYCP (2024), CAS Emerging Sculptors Award (2023), and Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants (2021–22). Light has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her work appears in Planted Journal, Global Art Times, Trebuchet, Inside Artist, and Ludvig Rage.
