About the Artwork
This triptych draws inspiration from the see-through windows and gates of traditional Chinese gardens, reimagining them as portals through which memory, cultural heritage, and the idea of home are glimpsed but never fully grasped. By combining rice paper and canvas, the work explores the tension between presence and absence, permanence and fragility. Each panel frames a layered, partially obscured view, suggesting memories that shift or erode over time. Translucent window forms disrupt spatial logic, creating a sense of disorientation and reflecting the complexity of looking back toward a place that is both familiar and increasingly distant.
