About the Artwork
The apple emerged as a recurring form within an image-minded process, as something close to a mantra. The apple provides a tool, an inroad to mark-making, and in its simplicity could be a way to both reach into the collective consciousness and resist it,
to mark it with a line that is mine.
At the heart of this work lies a tension between image and material, the mechanical and the intimate. The apple is so embedded in the collective image-bank that it becomes anonymous, and yet emerges, again and again, like a time-travelling anthropologist surfing the course of human activity.
